100th anniversary of filmmaker and Valencianista Luis García-Berlanga's birth

June 12th marks a century since the birth of Luis García-Berlanga, an illustrious Valencian filmmaker who passed away in 2010. A legend of Spanish cinema, he was also a passionate Valencianista.
His career was full of accolades. In 1986 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. He also received the Gold Medal of Fine Arts in 1981 and the National Premier of Cinematography in 1980, and was awarded the Italian Order of Commendatore and served as president of the National Film Library of Spain.
His most famous works include 'El Verdugo', 'Bienvenido, Mister Marshall' and 'Plácido', for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1961.
Luis García-Berlanga always expressed his love for Valencia CF, especially the 'Delantera Eléctrica' and star Mario Kempes.
